Josephine Karani

Board Chair

Josephine Karani is the current technical manager of the broadcasting Unit of the Parliament of Kenya. She is a seasoned broadcast journalist with over three decades of experience. She previously worked as the chief producer,Television with the Public Broadcaster, Kenya Broadcasting Corporation(KBC).She holds a Masters of Arts in Communication Studies and Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Sociology from the University of Nairobi. She has a Diploma in Television Production/ Presentation from Kenya Institute of Mass Communications (KIMC) and a certificate of Educational Programme Production Course (EPPC) from Radio Nederlands Training Centre (RNTC), the Netherlands.She is an alum of the Coaching and Leadership Course (The Media Project)of the Poynter Institute, South Florida University, USA and member of various professional bodies. Josephine is interested in girls and women and their development in all spheres of Life and also serves as the chairperson of the International Associations of Women in Radio and Television (IAWRT)- Kenya.

Peninah Ringera

Treasurer

An enthusiastic professional with drive, determination and over 10 years’ experience of working in a busy Finance & Administration department providing support to Management, Accounts & Human Resource task force. Peninah possesses excellent skills and expertise in designing and overseeing the implementation of internal control systems, financial administrative activities, administering and reviewing financial plans and budgets, grants management, monitoring financial expenditure reporting, cash forecasting, policy design and implementation and risk management through internal control systems and improved financial processes. Peninah holds a Masters of Science in Commerce –Finance and Investments and a Bachelor in Commerce- Finance from KCA University. She is also a certified Public Accountant and Human Resources Professional.

Sharon Kate Ng'ang'a

Secretary

A notable speaker, TV presenter, business developer, brand ambassador and moderator, Sharon's work has landed her at global events such as the 2016 UNCTAD Youth Forum in Nairobi, Kenya as a keynote address; 2016 Universal Day of the Child Forum by Safaricom Limited as the Youth keynote speaker; and the 2016 Segal Family Foundation Annual African Meeting as one of four selected Kenyan Youth Delegates held in Kampala, Uganda. Miss Ng’ang’a was also among the youngest Youth Mentors and Speaker during the inaugural 2016 Blaze Kenya by Safaricom Limited Youth Network Campaign, sharing her empowering and personal story with thousands of youth in six different counties in Kenya. She is a multi-faceted social entrepreneur with a special knack for community development based in Nairobi, Kenya. She has vast experience as a Girl Child/Youth Advocate, Youth Mentor, Media Personality, Pan-African Commercial Model and all-round Artist. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Statistics from Nairobi University.

Alafia Stewart

Vice Chair

Alafia Stewart is the Director of Learning for the Melton Foundation. She holds a B.A. in Sociology from Dillard University, New Orleans, an M.B.A in Human Resources from Universidad Interamericana, Puerto Rico. An Oakland California native, Alafia is a social activist, entrepreneur, and speaker. When not community organizing, she can most likely be found singing karaoke and/or trying all the amazing food the San Francisco bay area has to offer. Alafia lives by the motto: “2+2=4, but so does 3+1. There is almost never just one way to solve a problem so diversity in perspective is vital.”

She holds a bachelor’s degree in Law from Moi University and a certificate in Business Management from the Kenya Institute of Management. She is also currently pursuing certification and membership in Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution from Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb).
